The street celbrations which bring together young and not so young people to the furious tunes of the hispano-landese folklore, and the "bodegas" managed by local societies which offer meals and drinks at affordable prices are the main feature of the festivals, with their spellbinding and stimulating atmosphere. |
|
Other strong moments include the great saturday night cavalcade, the numerous bals, free and sporting events, childrens'shows, funfairs, cultural exhibitions and the outstanding fireworks, with everything now in BLUE AND WHITE, the town's colours, and make these celebrations the most important July event of south-wertern France. |

The "Fêtes de la Madeleine" are what July is all about in Mont-de-Marsan and the Landes. |

Their origins go back to the dawn of time. On October 15th 1594, King Henri the 4th confirms the date of July 22th to celebrate Saint Madeleine, the patron saint of the town. As of C-17, Mont-de-Marsan organises games featuring bulls. From 1889 on, hispano-landese games take place in the Plumaçon arena, which was renovated and extended in 1933. |
|
Today, this mythical bullring is the place where all the "aficionados" rally every year for five bullfights, two novilladas (with and without a picador), making it the key bullfighting place, which also offers the traditional "concours landais" and a Portuguese bullfight on horseback (in which the bull is not killed). |
